Strangers <> Gentiles
Who were the strangers hiking through the wilderness for 40 years? They were other non Israelite slaves that went with them when the Israelites split from Egypt.
These people were not strangers to the Israelites, they lived beside them in tents for 40 years as they wandered through the wilderness. Stranger means Non Israelite or gentile.
There are many instructions about gentiles/strangers.
* Treat them kind ( as you would your live stock )
* They were under the same secular laws... the same law for strangers and Israelites.
* One of the nice bits of info that preachers never bring up is about tithes. You know how preachers are always using the OT as reason why their congregation is to pay tithes? Well, there is not place in the entire bible where gentiles ever paid tithes... in fact the gentiles were NEVER told to pay tithes, but in fact the gentiles were appointed a portion of the tithes paid by the Israelites.
DEUTERONOMY 26:12 When you hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of yours increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
There is another one here I did not look up, but gentiles and their children were to be bought and sold like livestock.
I am told the strangers in the context below are "Non Levites"?
Stranger: Strong's Ref. # 2114 , Romanized zuwr, Pronounced zoor. A primitive root; to turn aside (especially for lodging); hence to be a foreigner, strange, profane
NUMBERS 1:51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death.
NUMBERS 3:10 And you shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death.
NUMBERS 3:38 But those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death.
[ Who is the sanctuary being kept in charge for... the children of Israel, are the children of Israel to be put to death for coming in the sanctuary kept for them? ]
NUMBERS 18:4 And they shall be joined to you, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come nigh to you.
[ Here is the tabernacle of the congregation for the services, so the Israelites are to be put to death if they come into "the tabernacle of the congregation for the service"?
Can the Israelites be the strangers stated here ? ]
EXODUS 12:43 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the Passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
EXODUS 12:45 A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof.
[ there is one exception... the gentiles who were slaves owned by the Israelites]
EXODUS 29:33 And they shall eat those things where with the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.
MATTHEW 7:6 Give not that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast you your pearls before swine.
MARK 7:27 But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs. [ dogs is a reference to non Israelites ]
EXODUS 30:33 ( Holy oil) Whosoever compounds any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
LEVITICUS 22:10 There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or an hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing.
LEVITICUS 22:12 If the priest's daughter also be married to a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
[ Hmmm 4,000 years ago Israelites were marrying non Israelites. Now where do you suppose the multitude of those descendants are living today? ]
LEVITICUS 22:25 Neither from a stranger's hand shall you offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
DEUTERONOMY 14:21 Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: you shalt give it to the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or you mayest sell it to an alien: for you art an holy people to the Lord thy God.
[ You can't eat a dead possum you find laying dead along the road, but you can sell it to a gentile to eat. ]
DEUTERONOMY 15:3 Of a foreigner you mayest exact it again: but that which is yours with thy brother yours hand shall release;
DEUTERONOMY 23:20 Unto a stranger you mayest lend upon usury; but to thy brother you shalt not lend upon usury: that the Lord thy God may bless you in all that you settest yours hand to in the land whither you goest to possess it.
[ You can charge a gentile interest but not an Israelite ]
Did the wife of Moses come into the congregation?
Oh, Yeah, Moses himself was married to a Midianite woman.
Was the Midianite woman killed because some of them were worshipping other gods? I think not.
Aaron was the guy who made the golden calf and had the Israelites worshipping it and he was allowed in the congregation.
NUMBERS 25:6 one of the children of Israel brought to his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel.
NUMBERS 25:7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it he took a javelin
NUMBERS 25:8 And thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
[ the Israelite gets a gold star for preventing a pelage ]
Solomon, himself was involved in worshipping other gods and yet he was allowed in the temple but his Egyptian wife was not allowed in the congregation of the Israelites.
No one becomes an Israelite through marriage, but the children of the Israelite and non Israelite, is an Israelite because they are the physical descendant of the man Israel.
We hear how Ruth "converted to Judaism", but this is quite the giggle. Ruth was a Moabite.
RUTH 1:22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
NEHEMIAH 13:1 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
Gentiles got to hear of the promises to come, they were healed by Christ, but until the last supper, they were on the outside looking in.
MATTHEW 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter you not: But go to the house of Israel and teach the gospel. ( remember the woman of Samaria revealed how they were not accepted )
MATTHEW 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
[ shall = future tense ]
MATTHEW 12:21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
LUKE 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
[ Healing gentiles, getting their attention and showing them the path ]
MARK 14:9 Verily I say to you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be [ future tense] preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
MARK 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
At the time of Christ this those around him would have looked similar to these girls. At that time they had been invaded by Europeans and the mix would have been well started. In the book of Acts where tongues are first mentioned, we find people from many nations living in the land and they would have been mixing producing children with the Israelites.
MATTHEW 16:18 And I say also to you, That you art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church;
[ will is future tense. Note every reference is church of the gentiles vs synagogue / temple of the Jews
Peter doesn't know it at this time, but he will be top dog in taking the gospel to the gentiles. He is made aware that the gentiles are now accepted in the vision of the sheet ]
ACTS 10:9 Peter went up upon the housetop to pray... fell into a trance,
ACTS 10:12 he saw were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts... there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
ACTS 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
ACTS 10:15 And the voice spoke to him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not you common.
ACTS 10:16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
ACTS 10:28 (Peter) he said to them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew (Peter speaking about himself) to keep company, or come to one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
ACTS 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Christ told Peter he would have the keys to the church, and every reference with those who are part, is church of the gentiles <> synagogue / temple of the Jews.
After the resurrection of Christ, the gentiles were included in the invitation to salvation.
LUKE 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
The new testament is given at the last supper.
LUKE 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
MARK 14:24 And he said to them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
MARK 16:15 And he said to them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. ( after the resurrection of Christ)
[ Here the commission changes from shall [future tense, to do it NOW ]
Until the last supper gentiles were rejected "Lost in the world with out God".
By the Old Testament there was no conversion of non Israelites. The only gentiles allowed to partake of the Passover were gentile slaves owned by the Israelites.
Gentiles were not allowed to be given the holy bread, nor were they allowed to have the holy oil put on them. Any Israelite who did these things were cut off from the tribes of Israel.
Later in the books of prophecy ( in times to come ) after the Messiah has come, the Old Testament tells of the time when gentiles will be accepted in the congregations.
When you look at the books of prophecy, make note if there is any actual case of gentiles in the congregations worshipping with the Israelites... if you find one, give me the book, chapter and verse.
When Christ began his ministry, he said go not the way of the gentiles, but go to the house of Israel to preach the gospel.
At the last supper, the commission changed from go not to the gentiles, to go into all the world, go into all nations and teach the gospel.
The apostles said, because YOU (descendants of the Israelites) have rejected Christ, we turn to the gentiles.
If indeed the Messiah has not come, no actual descendant of the Israelites who would bring a gentile into their congregation to be "converted" is a heretic and a liar.
In the NT we find the Jews were outraged, when the apostles brought gentiles into the temple.
ACTS 13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
EPHESIANS 2:12 That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
If Christ is not the Messiah, then there are no Christians, gentiles are with out hope.
If the Messiah has not come, then any actual Israelite descendant bringing a gentile into their congregation would be a heretic.
Of course those who call themselves "Jews" are nothing less than a crock pot of gentiles themselves.
