Ashdod was the capital of 5 Canaanite cities. The Ashdodites were probably Canaanites who received their names by living in that area of Canaan.
The Jews married the Ashdodites and they had been mingled with them so many generations their children could no longer speak in Hebrew.
NEHEMIAH 013:023 In those days also saw I Jews [S#3064] that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
The Jews married the Ashdodites and produced children with them. These Ashdodite / Jews have been poking each other in those Arab nations for 3,000 years, how great would their multitude of Arab descendants be today?
NEHEMIAH 013:024 And their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
The facts are recorded and over, the Israelites began with Iraqi or Chaldeans who married Syrians. All Israelites came from those two Arab people and from there, they only continued the mix with every other Arab around them. Here toward the end of the old testament, they were such a mix of these other Arabs their children spoke the language of those Arabs.
The Israelites were not a separate people from the rest of the Arabs. The Arab Israelites were an integrated composite of all the Arabs they came in contact with.
